| This Week... This week in Writing we worked on our Following the Rules paper. We are working on our rough draft. Some students are revising and editing. In Reading we read the second chapter in the book, Frog and Toad Are Friends. We made a story chart to show the problem and solution in the story, found short "i" words in the story, and created a noun flip book for the story. For Science we have been observing our mealworms. We had an exciting moment on Monday when we discovered one of the mealworms had turned into a darkling beetle. We also received new insects that arrived as eggs. We can't wait until they hatch! In Math we are reviewing adding and subtracting basic math facts. We practice every day by taking a timed test to help us learn the math facts faster. In Social Studies we drew pictures of some of the people who work in our community. Thanks for attending Open House on Wednesday. We had fun preparing the room for your visit, and hope you had fun visiting. Mr. Hudkins, our PE teacher, wants to remind parents that PE will be outside as long as the weather is nice. Please make sure your child wears or brings oustside shoes that they can run and play in. Flip flops and sandals can make it difficult and dangerous. Thank You! The New Washington State Math Standards require Second Graders to quickly recall basic math facts for sums through 20. We practice at school, but to help your child reach his or her goal, practice with your child often at home, too. Practice while making dinner, standing in line at the store, riding in the car, waiting for the bus...there are lots of opportunities during the day!

Each student is responsible for bringing supplies to class. These supplies should be replenished as needed.
Students are responsible for their own behavior. The class discussed rules and behaviors appropriate to the classroom and wrote our own class rules. The Rosalia Student Handbook was also discussed.
